In the abortion/ anti-abortion controversy, there are numerous questions for which we have no physical tangible evidence upon which to base our decisions. And yet, we often have to make decisions regarding these questions. In cases like this, we commonly have at least three possible answers: It's true. It's False. We simply don't know. Or perhaps we say: It's this way. It's that way. It's this other way. We really have no idea which way it is. Each of the answers often dictates a different response. Let's as an example, ask the core question in the abortion controversy: When does life begin? This question has numerous possible answers. The most common answers are: 1) The fundamentalist Christian, forced motherhood perspective Life begins at conception. Life is the physical body, itself. When the human egg and sperm united, God steps in and, by an act of instantaneous, supernatural, transcendental magic, transforms that egg and sperm into a brand new, never before existing human being. This new human being lives only once on Earth, and then after death is again magically transformed from a physical body into something non-physical and then the non-physical "whatever-it-is" goes to heaven, to hell, or into God's cosmic trash bin forever. Forever is a whole lot of time. 2) The Christian Bible Genesis 2:7 Life begins at birth/first breath. "And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." 3) Scientific perspective Life doesn't begin on Earth anymore, it just keeps changing form. 4) Life never begins. Life never ends. We are eternal divine beings who always were and always will be. We simply inhabit a series human bodies. We enter at the beginning of the human bodies life and we leave the body again at the Earth-time we call death. (Reincarnation -- believed by billions of followers of the Eastern religions) 5) Life is the physical body itself. Its beginning is anywhere form conception first breath. It ends and the human being ceases to be somewhere in the process where the breathing stops, the heart stops and the brain waves stop. (Atheistic viewpoint) 6) Life begins when the fetus can survive outside the room. (the medical perspective) 7) Life begins three months after birth. (from early Catholicism) 8) At our current level of scientific and psychological understanding, we cannot prove when life begins. 9) Life begins when we declare that it does. (The legal perspective)
. . V The Real Question in this Controversy Is: When do we, as a society, grant a developing, human, life-form the status of a separate, sovereign, individual human being and accorded him or her full human rights? What is the answer? Well, there are many opinions, but nobody has the answer. We’ll share our position with you, but before we do, let us say that our personal religious beliefs may be different from yours, and you are welcome to hold beliefs that differ from ours. That is, after all, what freedom and this great country of ours are all about. We must, however, distinguish between religious beliefs and the regulations we impose on people. Our country’s laws must allow religious freedom for everyone, and, as long as we (the Pro-Truth Team) are available, we will work diligently to see that everyone’s rights as a citizen are honored, regardless of his or her religious beliefs. . . *********************** Step aside from all the controversy for a moment and ask: What is the best long-term strategy for reducing abortions, deal with poverty Promote safe sex Sex education use condoms. research to find foolproof contraceptive. stop mercury poisoning that damages brains of fetuses and young children Promote health care centers
Christi Hefner Because your father has been a major player in the advancement of freedom in America, I would be honored to have the playboy organization participate with us in spearheading the crash of the right wing, Christian extremists. I have contacted you and your organization several times with our pro-choice project and each time my offer has been simply ignored. This is the last time I shall approach the Playboy Organization. Your competitors will love the fact that our future public information will clearly indicate that the Playboy organization is so stupid as to miss this golden opportunity. When the house lights go down and the curtain rises on "The Reasonables" don't expect to be invited in!
Forced motherhood does none of these. ********************************* Poverty is a major producer of abortions. Address this issue ***********************************
manipulation by fairytales deception and fairytales
*********************** Going to war is short term winning only eventually forced motherhood will lose.
We have mostly conjecture, opinions, beliefs, speculation, wild guesses. educated guesses, inner feelings conflicting opinions
If you were to examine a single aspect of the abortion issue, and notice a single result, that single result, in and of itself, doesn't mean anything. Here are some possible areas in which to ask our questions: 1) Are the anti-choice leaders acting in a universally accepted, honorable, loving, compassionate manner? 1) Are the anti-choice leaders telling the complete an accurate truth? 1) Does the evidence support the belief that life begins at conception? see that the anti-choice leaders are acting in a particular manner, or that the evidence is pointing in the same direction, or that anti-choice leaders' actions are producing a particular type of result, or that the evidence overwhelmingly compatible with a particular conclusion and overwhelmingly absent toward the opposite conclusion, . But what happens when ten or twenty items seem to all be compatible with the same conclusion and to all not not compatible with its opposite conclusion? |
