How to Address the Moral Values Issue

 .

The so-called moral values issue, must be addressed quickly, clearly, powerfully and decisively.   Obviously not everyone is going to agree with the assessment offered in this treatise.    If you have something better to offer, let's hear it.°  If not, we suggest that you thoroughly examine the proposals offered here before you pass judgments on them.

The Problem:   Moral values and conservative Christian theology have been put into the same package.    This is a clever, but fraudulent advertising gimmick.    The two are definitely not the same.    The distinction must be made strongly, powerfully, clearly, and quickly.

What Happened to The Truth?   The ultra-conservative Christian leaders have lost the number one moral value --- Telling the Truth.   They Claim Jesus as their role model.   They claim that the Christian Bible is both the word of God and the absolute truth and yet,  they act as if literally dozens of Biblical passages simply did not exist.°    

To see the truth about the moral values peddlers, you have but to examine:    What they actually do°   /   What they ignore in their own Bible°   /  How  they deceive others with lies of omission°   /   Their unethical-immoral behavior,°  /  Why they do it,°  /   The techniques they use,°  / The company they keep,°  /  the inevitable Consequences of their actions,° /   and   The unprovable fairytale° that their entire anti-choice war is based on.    Here are just two examples of what they ignore in their own Bible:

"Know the truth and the truth shall set you free."

                                                           (John 8:32)

"Thou shall not bear false witness." 

                                                                                (Mark 10:19)   (Job 27:4)   &   (Exodus 20:16)

Lies of omission°   are their stock in trade.   Ethical behavior is preached but not practiced.°       How can one claim to have high moral values and at the same time, ignore their own critically important, Biblical truths?°   

Here are just three examples of where the truth is intentionally ignored by the peddlers of moral values:   The general public and particular the conservative Christians have been told (and now believe) these  false stories:

First,  that George Bush is a genuine, born-again Christian, 

Second,  that he can be trusted, and 

Third,  that he and his ultra-conservative Christian extremists friends are standing on the high ground of Godly morality.   

A Reality Check:  The evidence tell us that regarding all three of these beliefs, quite the opposite is true.   The evidence tell us: 1)  that Mr. Bush and the deeply  conservative, religious leaders who told their followers to vote for him are  gross hypocrites;°  2) that they are pro-life in name but not in behavior;°   3) that they do not live by or practice the moral superiority that they preach;  4)  that the Christian extremist leaders are in bed with the Godless atheists°  who own the structures that control the Republican Party, and 5) that their entire moral values campaign is based on deception, lies of omission,°  and false claims,°   and 6)  the so-called moral values are neither moral nor inherently valuable;  they are bastardized expressions of  conservative Christian theology.    It's time for the real Christians to take back Christianity.

The Solution:   Here's an effective way to address the specific issues hiding under the so-called moral values label.

What Won't Work:   

Simply saying, "I go to church, too,"  does not address the moral values problem.   Going to church to connect to God is a personal matter;  not a political statement.

Parroting the anti-choice leaders and proclaiming that you also support their agenda would be to join the lie.   That is not an option, either, and even if you did that, it would still not resolve the problem.

What Will Work:   

If you want to keep abortion legal,°  if you are concerned about anti-gay  discrimination,°  and if you want to keep the Democratic Party as a viable force° in our political  process, the so-called moral values must be addressed quickly, clearly, specifically and individually.

This sounds like an impossible task.   Actually, it isn't.   It's quite simple in principle.   What is difficult is for us to be willing to face the truth and then change our behavior accordingly.   What is being asked of us is  to set aside our personal prejudices and become willing to participate in a consensus°  the goals of which are:  

1)   To find out what the phrase "moral values" actually means in its present usage.°  To see if those claiming to teach "moral values" are actually teaching universally accepted, compassionate, loving, Christ-like  principles,  or are they simply peddling divisive,  us-against-them, fundamental Christian theology.

2)   To actually live by the Christ-like principles  -- i.e. practicing unconditional love and compassion, being non-judgmental, etc.   

3)   To examine the fairytales  (here's an example)  we presently accept as facts and set them aside in favor of living our lives based on what the presently available evidence tells us is most probable reality.   

4)   To adjust our behavior to reflect the common good even when, in the short term, it appears that others will  gain more than we will.  

Our job is to expose the right wing fraud;  to show that Bush and company are actually standing, not on the high moral ground, but rather on a manure pile.   Our weapon is the truth.   To see the truth about the moral values peddlers, you have but to examine:    What they actually do°   /   What they ignore in their own Bible°   /  How  they deceive others with lies of omission°   /   Their unethical-immoral behavior,°  /  Why they do it,°  /   The techniques they use,°  / The company they keep,°  /  the inevitable Consequences of their actions,° /   and   The unprovable fairytale° that their entire anti-choice war is based on.

We Have Three Choices:

1)   Do nothing.   Well, not quite nothing.   Teach your daughters and granddaughters how to perform coat hanger abortions.  

2)   Become as phony as the anti-choice leader are.

3)  Pull the false, self-righteous foundation out from under the extremist, fundamentalist Christian leaders.   

a)  Expose the conservative anti-choice leaders for what they are.°     Expose  what they do.°   Show the world  the company they keep,°   Expose the consequences of their behavior.°  

b)  Expose the evidence showing that the entire anti-abortion campaign is based on an un-provable, Medieval, religious fairytale.   

c)  Expose that their true intention is to create a Christian  theocracy°  in America.   It's NOT about saving babies.

d)  Expose how they defy God and deny the truth set forth in their own Bible.° 

e)  Expose how they intentionally violate the U.S. Constitution and and how they intentionally violate  the separation of church and state.°  

f)  Expose why they  intentionally declare war on everything they can think of°  that will get them publicity, attract supporters, and above all,  attract money and political power.

g)  Expose that the Christian followers are being conned, lied to, manipulated, used, and otherwise raped °  by the Christian-talking but atheist-acting, self-centered multi-millionaires who, behind the scenes, own the structures that control the Republican Party.

OK, Now What:

In the second half of this page, we'll examine each of the so-called moral values issues.

 Once we understand what we are actually talking about, then we'll look for alternative perspective on each of these issues.   We'll look for positions that can be the focal point of consensus -- a consensus designed to end that fighting and to focus on the really critical issues such as:

1)    The unchecked environmental destruction that is already in the middle stages of bringing to us several major catastrophes, and 

2)    How excessive amounts of money being funneled to political candidates is corrupting our country and slowly but surely pushing our Republic in the direction of a fascist police state.
