Leaders Versus Followers

Page Summary

The anti-choice side of the abortion controversy is made up primarily of those with strong ties to the Christian religion.   Those leading the anti-abortion movement are almost exclusively fundamentalist Christians or members of the Roman Catholic hierarchy.    A large percentage of them are clergy active in leading church followers.  The followers / the workers, (those who actually do the work and provide the money)  are, with few exceptions, either conservative Catholics or fundamentalist Christians.

When one gives only a quick and cursory look at the anti-abortion movement, it looks like some well-meaning people are attempting to save lives.   And, indeed, that is the loving and heartfelt intention of thousands of people active in that cause, BUT....   

A thorough examination of the underlying evidence and a close look at the activities of the no-choice leaders tells us a very different story.   The picture is far less rosy.   Actually, it's rather grim.    Because not everybody is open and honest, we would like to distinguish, for you, the differences between those with loving intentions from those with a very different intention (i.e. from those with a hidden agenda..)

Anti-abortion Followers:

Most of the workers who follow instructions from the anti-abortion movement's leaders fall into two main categories.   They're either fundamentalist Christians or devout Roman Catholics.

We owe these people a debt of gratitude.   Why Because they are dedicated to and passionate about saving the lives of innocent children.   There are thousands of loving, caring people who are actively opposing abortion rights who do so out of love, compassion, caring and a true desire to be of service.   Their intentions are in the right place and we need to respect and honor those intentions.

Unfortunately, where religion and abortion are concerned, most of these people simply don't think.   They are mindless sheep.    Most of them have never examined the underlying facts about their religion or learned the basic truths about abortion..

While they were very young children most of them were indoctrinated with a very limited  view of reality and told that anything that does not conform to their church's  story was the work of Satan.   They were also told that they should not listen to anything that contradicts their leaders stories. because if they do, they could lose their faith and burn in hell forever.

As adults, those who do become aware of  countermanding evidence, such as Genesis 2:7,. and Ecclesiastes 11:5, RSV. rarely ever question their leaders.   They simply shut down their minds and follow instructions. 

The anti-abortion leaders appropriately call their followers sheep.   This analogy is frequently used in the Christian Bible.  It probably stems from the fact that, when it comes to religion, most devout religious believers simply do not think for themselves.   Like sheep, they simply follow their leaders.

One must understand that the most successful way to control others. is by telling them what to believe.   And in that department, the age old maxim still stands:  "Program your beliefs into a very young child's mind and you got him when he is an adult."    Please see the section titled:   Beliefs are Stronger that Steel and Stone..

A Word of Gratitude:   Although the overwhelming evidence points to the validity of supporting pro-choice, we acknowledge that the vast majority of those opposing abortion rights are dedicated to and passionate about saving the lives of innocent children.  We acknowledge that they oppose abortion rights out of love, compassion, care and a true desire to be of service. 

Words to the Wise:  We must also be aware that there are some people in this world who are con artists and who will use any avenue, including abortion to gain money, power, notoriety, etc.    You also need to be aware that a clever con man can stroke his ego and gain power, money, fame, and be thought of my millions as "a good guy" by simply going into the ant-abortion business.

That's not to say that the anti-abortion leaders are anything but honest, dedicated and compassionate human beings.    But the wise needs to be aware that within that vast majority of those who come from love and compassion there are some hypocrites and con artists.   Remember the words of Jesus,  "Beware of the wolves in sheep's clothing."

Those leading the anti-abortion movement are obligated to seek the truth, speak the truth,  to walk their own talk, and to honor the rights of those who hold different beliefs.    Unfortunately many of those in the leadership positions in the anti-abortion movement are notorious for doing quite the opposite.   But don't believe us.   Lets look at the evidence:

Lets start by comparing their words with their actions and their results.  The "pro-life" leaders tell a good story and present a very rosy picture of what they do, but when you examine what they actually do. and when you examine the consequences. of their actions, a very different picture emerges.   

The anti-abortion leaders are highly skilled in the art of eliciting emotions, and they are masters at spinning the truth..   The wise remember the words of Jesus,  "Be wary of wolves in sheep's clothing."  So let's look at some of  the words, actions, results, company, and life styles of the anti-choice leaders.

    No-choice Hypocrisy:

The evidence overwhelmingly indicates that if there was an Academy Award for hypocrisy,  the anti-abortion leaders would win first prize.

The evidence overwhelmingly indicates that the entire anti-abortion war is based on belief in an unprovable fairytale that has its origin in antiquity.   It was given to us by the same people who believed the Earth was flat.

    Elitism -- The Holier Than Thou Attitude:  

Based upon their public statements and their behavior, here's what the leaders must think of themselves.   "I, as your leader, am more special than you my followers, and you as my followers and as members of my group are superior those people who are in any other religion/race/gender/country/social group.   God speaks to me and not to others.   I'm God's special messenger and you are not."

    A Claim to Be in Smarter Than You Are:   

Based upon their public statements and their behavior, they radiate the following attitudes:

"Trust me.   I know what I'm doing."   
" Never question my wisdom or my authority."    
" Don' t think for yourselves.   I'll think for you."    
"Do as I say, not as I do."    
"I'm God's chosen messenger.   I'm here to help you."   
"I  expect you to give me money."

    False Claims:

The evidence overwhelmingly indicates that the Truest Truth,.  ("The Real Truth,") about abortion is that  WE  DON'T  KNOW  THE  TRUTH!    And we have no way to find the truth!

    No-choice Failure:

The evidence overwhelmingly indicates that if the intention of the anti-abortion leaders really is saving the lives of innocent babies, they are doing a dismally poor job.
